Casa Congo is a sustainability hub located in El Astillero, Nicaragua, where local communities and international experts collaborate to develop innovative projects tackling climate change, social inequality, and economic development. Since its inception in 2017, Casa Congo has educated over 200 local community members and hosted more than 120 international volunteers, fostering a space for impactful change, hands-on learning, and cultural exchange. By combining local knowledge with global expertise, Casa Congo continues to drive meaningful progress in environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Ocean Conservation: Participate in surfing sessions, beach cleanups, sea turtle conservation efforts, and night anti-poaching patrols.
Ecology: Take part in guided tours, research, and data collection in the Chacocente Wildlife Refuge, along with reforestation initiatives and ecology classes.
Agroecology: Learn about organic gardening, vermiculture, wastewater treatment, and rainwater systems.
Built Environments: Discover bamboo design and construction, social housing projects, and furniture-making (runs 3 months/year).
Las Tejedoras: Collect plastic bags and transform them into beautiful artworks.

Whether you're interested in a few days of volunteering or a longer-term stay, Casa Congo welcomes those who wish to be part of this vibrant and purpose-driven experience.
Casa Congo is open to visitors who want to stay for 3 nights or more, with an average of 2 - 4 hours of volunteering and conservation activities included in the accommodation. Alternatively, those interested in a specific experience, such as tours or workshops, can opt for a day pass. Researchers or university students can also come for a longer stay (minimum 1 month) to work on projects with Casa Congo.
Accommodation in a private room with a double bed, towels, toiletries, and daily cleaning. Wi-Fi, personal storage, and drinking water are provided. Enjoy a traditional Nica breakfast daily. Access to the communal kitchen, coworking space, outdoor areas, and workshops is included. You’ll also have a surfboard for your stay and participate in volunteering activities based on the weekly schedule. Equipment is provided as needed. Guided tours of the Chacocente Wildlife Refuge, night sea turtle patrols (seasonal), and sea turtle releases are part of the experience. Stay for at least two weeks to receive a social impact certificate.
